Bringing a cappella to the streets of new york and beyond.

Founded in January 2011, The Current is a 15-strong group of a cappella-philes – mostly college group alums – with 13 years and counting on the NYC scene. An honored Contemporary A Cappella League (CAL) group, with a past Harmony Sweepstakes win for “Best Original Song," the group spans a diverse array of day jobs, ages, and other demographics, though what we loved most about our former groups has been where we’ve always strived to start and end: a solid sonic blend, with some A-major value placed on camaraderie in the process – plus as much stage action as we can stir up.

To date, we've headlined sold-out shows at top local joints like Rockwood Music Hall, littlefield, The Bitter End, DROM, and The Triad; brought the house down at private and corporate events from Macy*s to the UN; belted it out on PBS and behind Aretha Franklin; sung a plethora of blushing brides, grooms, and others down the aisles; and raised spirits in hospitals, at holiday parties, and as a happy addition to celebrations of all kinds – whether bringing energetic harmony to school assemblies or charity walks, flash-mobbing a special someone with an unforgettable wedding proposal or birthday serenade, or collaborating on a client’s own unique vision for another kind of aca-mazingness. And since this is NYC, of course we’ve also been known to turn up more spontaneously in hotspots like Times Square and Central Park, and offer an extra-magical bit of Big-Apple joy to tourists and locals alike.
